Wind Ensemble usually consists of slightly more advanced players. This band also plays a more difficult level of music than the average high school concert band. The players put a lot of work into rehearsals come festival time. They are required to come in after school in the evening for "Tuesday Night Rehearsals" in preparation for festivals. An audition is usually required to be part of the wind ensemble.
Symphonic Band is made up of many good musicians, usually incoming sophomores. This band is a good stepping stone before symphonic band. Just because it is considered the "lower band", it does not mean the players are not as good as symphonic players. Many wind ensemble players play in symphonic band as well. Concert Band is made up of mostly new Freshmen. There are a few upper-classmen in this band that help out the freshmen. They play the less advanced high school literature, but is still quite a challange. There are many good players in Concert Band, just because it's the 9th grade band doesn't mean they aren't good. Even though they work hard, night rehersals aren't mandatory.
7th Hour Jazz is so named because it is the band class during seventh period. It is also called "Upper Jazz," but both jazz bands are extremely good. It is probably considered one of the best high school jazz bands in Florida. They play more difficult charts than the 3rd Hour Jazz Band. This band also plays gigs outside of school related events, and they are always the highlight of the concerts. An audition is usually required to be in this band.
3rd Hour Jazz is so named because it is the band during third period. It is also called "Lower Jazz," but this band is also considered one of the best high school jazz bands in Florida. They play difficult charts and work just as hard as 7th Hour Jazz. This band is a very good stepping stone before Upper Jazz, and it is a good band for someone who is just learning the fundamentals of jazz music. This band usually consists of sophomores.
